Chippewa Valley Woodturners Guild donation to the Feed My People "Empty Bowls" fund raiser.
Feed My People is a "food bank" located here in Eau Claire that supplies free food to 69 food pantries in 14 counties going from Hayward and Spooner in the north to Black River Falls and Alma in the south. Medford in the East to Durand and Pepin in the west. Much of its food supplies come from Second Harvest, located in the Twin Cities but, much also comes from local companies (retail, wholesale, jobber) right here in the Chippewa Valley. They have two trucks with volunteer drivers that are on the road 5 days a week delivering to these pantries and picking up donations.
As you can see from the adjoining pictures there was no lack of enthusiasm and focus as the membership stood up, accepted the challenge and turned not only 85 bowls but, also, laminated pens, pen/pencil sets w/cases, pepper mills, tooth pick holders, and special bowls. Fourteen members and one non-member , Rick Bauer's daughter Mary, took time out of their busy lives to help those less fortunate.

Some of the comments from staff and volunteers at Feed My People are;
"Amazing," Beautiful," "Oh My Goodness."
"Everyone who has seen the items you donated just 'oohs and aahs' over them."
A letter from the Assistant Director of Feed My People to Brian George president of CVWG.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for your call this afternoon. As you know, some of the wonderful items donated by Chippewa Valley Wood Turners Guild were put in the Silent Auction and other items were put into the regular selection of bowls. The wooden pieces were very popular in both places! Below is a listing of the funds raised through your generous efforts:
Silent Auction: $1340
General selection of bowls: $400
Total: $1740
This total is equivalent to $17,400 worth of food (124,236 pounds), or 99,389 meals!
Empty Bowls 2010 was our most successful event to date – more than 1500 people attended and over $41,000 was raised! Many thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.
Please call or email me with any questions or concerns. Thanks again!
Michelle
