Hi All,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.
The demo was by Bob Eberhardt on how to use a screw chuck, make your own screw chuck and then how to finish the bottom of a bowl taking into account the design’s shape from the beginning. He also showed how to rechuck a bowl for the 2nd turn after drying. He was very detailed with his demo and did a great job explaining all aspects of the process. Also, next month’s challenge is to finish the bottom of a bowl and walk us through your thought processes.
We did get a new Laguna band saw for the shop replacing the Grizzly. The Grizzly is back in working order and is up for silent bids to active club members.
We had a good turnout for our Open House on Saturday, with 15 people showing up. Some were turning and some were there to sharpen/ reshape their tools. There were a lot of questions and a lot of mentoring, so that is great for the club/guild.
February’s demo will be on making a bowl from a board by Ron Bartz. I think this is a repeat from years ago, but we have a lot of new members since then. I’ve never seen it.
We had an attendance of 35 at our January meeting, including three new people. Looking forward to seeing you all in February.
Dan
